Important Announcements!
Dear Members of the Division of School Media and Technology: I hope this email finds you ready for a well-deserved holiday break! You and your family have my best wishes for all the best this holiday season has to offer. This posting to the SMT Weblog contains three important announcements regarding the Division: 1. The Call for Proposals for AECT Dallas '06 2. Officer Elections for '06-'07 3. A request for volunteers to read/rate proposals +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 1. The Call for Proposals for AECT Dallas '06 This year's call for proposals for the Annual Meeting in Dallas, TX, is posted at http://www.aect.org/events/call/. It is important to note that the deadline for proposals is two weeks earlier than normal: January 15, 2006 (a scant 23 days away!). Please also note that there is only one, single, deadline date. AECT President Ward Cates has indicated his desire for all proposals to be submitted by January 15 and a notification sent to proposers by March 1! There are three types of proposals being solicited: regular proposals, special technology-enhanced proposals, and featured research proposals. All three types of proposals are explained in detail on the call website and all are due January 15, 2006. If you have a proposal in mind, please do not delay in submitting it via the electronic submission system. All information regarding the electronic submission process is located on the call website: http://www.aect.org/events/call/. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2. Officer Elections for '06-'07 Division President Susan Stansberry has already requested nominations for division officers for '06-'07 (officers begin their terms at the Dallas Convention) in an earlier email. I wish to add my encouragement to any who feel a desire to serve the division in this capacity. We need candidates for the following offices: President-Elect (big job is rounding up reviewers and putting together the conference program for our division) Secretary (taking and distributing minutes of meetings) Communications Officer (maintaining the division website and blog) Board Representative (representing our division at all AECT board meetings and communicating that information back to the division officers and membership). Please e-mail Susan with specific questions regarding the offices. Her email is susan.stansberry@okstate.edu. If you're interested in running, please send her the office in which you are interested, a short bio, and a photo. Absolutely feel free to nominate yourself if you have a desire to serve! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3. Volunteers to read/rate proposals One of the duties of my office, president-elect, is to plan the division's offerings for the Dallas Convention. In that planning process, each proposal submitted to the division needs to be peer-reviewed and rated. Proposals are not lengthy (the call indicates a 750-1000 word limit, but my experience is that they are generally much shorter than that) and the review process is completely online. If you are interested in serving the division in this capacity, please email me at baspitze@iusb.edu. The more reviewers we have, the fewer each reviewer will have to read. This service should not be a long, drawn-out process; rather, with proposals due on January 15 and the intended notification date of March 1, you'll be asked to read proposals only during that time frame. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ As you plan out your 2006 calendar, be sure to mark October 11-14 for Dallas, Texas, and the 2006 Annual Meeting! Once again, happy holidays to you and your family. Bruce Spitzer President-Elect, Div. of School Media and Technology, AECT Ass't Professor, Instructional Technology Indiana University South Bend
