The Division of School Media and Technology is organizing a national community service project that will help the children of the enormous tragedy that occurred in this nation last week. Every one of us can contact our local Red Cross, Salvation Army and churches to see how we can help. We can offer to collect and deliver children?s books, school supplies, educational toys, and even reading material for the adults who have been taken to shelters in as many states as 24 or more. They will be there for many months. We can volunteer to do story telling for the younger kids to help them in the frightening transition they are currently in. We can assist in finding schools where children will be welcomed for an interim period of time. We can get involved as intensively as we choose or at any level that is within your comfort zone. We are educators, individuals who have a keen interest in learning and child development. Most of us have dedicated our lives to the teaching and learning processes of children. This is an extreme opportunity to do something more. Please join us in this endeavor. Use the DMT listserv to share with others of us about what you are doing in your community or contact Carol Brown, Division President BROWNCAR@MAIL.ECU.EDU or Jen Banas jen@bluechalk.us, Communications officer for the Division of Media & Technology at once to let us know you are onboard.
