Historic SA education legislation passed

All young South Australians will be required by law to be in school, training or full-time work until they turn 17 from 2009, following the passage of historic legislation in State Parliament. The new leaving age also will coincide with the introduction of a number of the South Australian Government's $84 million 'school to work' reforms of the senior secondary system. That includes the establishment of 10 Trade Schools for the Future and introduction of a new South Australian Certificate Education, to be awarded from 2011. Government of SA, 22 November 2007.
