Information behaviour of the researcher of the future: a CIBER briefing paper
This study was commissioned by the British Library and JISC to identify how the specialist researchers of the future, currently in their school or pre-school years, are likely to access and interact with digital resources in five to ten years' time. The authors explore the world of the 'Google generation' of young people, born after 1993, growing up in a world dominated by the internet. They conclude that much writing overestimates the impact of ICTs on the young and underestimates its effect on older generations. At national level, there is a desperate need for a wellfunded programme of educational research and inquiry into the information and digital literacy skills of young people. This will require concerted action between libraries, schools and parents.
